Where I’ve Been
Weekend of April 6th - Rented a Zipcar and made our way out to Westchester county on a trip designed to be part getaway/part “could we ever see ourselves living out here?”.
The short answer: Definitely maybe but probably not. It’s nice out there but being one of the most expensive suburbs in New York State, it would not quench our thirst for a home. The best we could do is a townhouse, but why make the big move to the ‘burbs if we’re just going to live in a townhouse (unless one of us worked out there, of course)? Anyhow, we checked out Purchase, NY and it’s pretty nice. In fact, maybe a little too nice. There were lots of mansion-like homes (the kinds with private tennis courts, etc.) so there’s no way we could afford that neighborhood. We also checked out downtown White Plains which was surprisingly urban and more “city-like” than we thought. We eventually ended up at the previously blogged about mall The Westchester. Unfortunately our Zipcar did not have the gas card it was supposed to come equipped with so I had to pay for gas on my own ($42 to fill up the tank!) and later requested to be reimbursed. Other than that, the trip went pretty smoothly and it was nice to get away for a few hours but I doubt we’ll be moving out to Westchester anytime soon.
