Snark in the Slope

I came across this sign today while walking the dog. Someone had placed it on a tree as a snarky way to tell people to not destroy the little garden that surrounded the tree. 

The sign has worn a bit from the weather (and I can’t make out one of the words) but the rest of it reads as follows:

Contrary to urban myth, city trees do not thrive on dog waste, human saliva, chewed gum or unwanted coffee. Instead, like trees all over the world, they thrive on sunshine, water, and ___. Please be thoughtful. Thank you.

    The word (or acronym) you seek is TLC, known to my mom and thousands of her generation as “Tender Loving Care”…
